Since my last post I have been busy selling mopeds. In the last week or so I sold both mopeds after listing them on Craigslist for only a few days! Who knew that old mopeds were still in demand? I didn't make a huge profit on either but I now have a fund to help pay for the next restoration project. I'll keep my eyes open for the next rusty treasure to bring back to life!
We also have a new car to drive. I took our Ford Fusion Hybrid to the dealership last Monday to have them look into a noise we have noticed for the past several months and as I suspected, the transmission needed to be replaced. It seems the transmissions used in the 2013 and 2014 Ford Hybrids had a bearing "issue" that causes this noise and their solution is to replace the whole transmission. I understand from my research that the newer versions (2015 and later) don't have this problem so hopefully the new transmission will be trouble free. This is the only problem we have had with this car since we purchased it 3 years ago so I guess I can't complain too loudly, especially since the cost of the replacement is on them! That being said -- I really hate to have others work on my vehicles. I'll give their competence the benefit of the doubt for now -- until they prove otherwise! The replacement is supposed to be done by next Tuesday so in the meantime we will drive the 2017 Ford Edge they provided. I do miss the 40+ mpg of our hybrid after driving the Edge at around 21 mpg!
Yesterday, Peggy and I were treated to lunch with granddaughter Taylor at her school. It was a fun hour or so and sure brought back memories of school lunches in the elementary school cafeteria! Actually the lunch wasn't bad at all. We had BBQ chicken breast, baked potato, carrots, watermelon, and breadsticks served by the wonderful Marcia Buker Elementary School Lunch Ladies! And then we got to go out for recess! Ah, the good old days!
Speaking of the "good old days," remember waay back in the days before Facebook and other forms of Social Media. These were the days when "politics" was considered something that politicians did. We all made jokes about politicians, moved on to discussions about the other things in life, and then parted, usually with our relationships intact. It has been my observation that the recent growth of general ugliness in America can be directly linked to the growth of social media. Today we can post, tweet, comment, like, share and most of all hate and instantly all our "friends" and "friends of friends" know about it. We unfriend or become unfriended because our "friends" become offended by someone's need to hate. We hate Democrats because they hate Republicans ... and vice versa. We hate moderates because they aren't ideologically pure. There has always been hate ... but social media allows it to spread at the speed of light.
I fear the cycle is exponential ... and we need to stop it!
