It's All Judy's Fault

As previously advertised - we drove up to Kerrville on Friday afternoon to meet up with Jim & Ellie Meacham and Rod & Debbie Kendall at Bill's Bar-B-Que. I knew this was going to be a good place as soon as we drove in. The smokers were in operation and the smells were absolutely wonderful! We had our choices of brisket, sausage, pork ribs, pork rump roast, turkey, chicken, and/or goat. It was certainly hard to choose since it all looked good. Peggy opted for a turkey sandwich and I went for a pork rib and turkey combo plate. The meats were all just fantastic! Although we had some BBQ sauce on the side - the meats had a super flavor with nothing at all.

We all had our fill and then sat for a bit and just visited. While we were sitting I asked the owner (strangely enough he was named Bill) if he shipped his meats. He said he certainly did and asked where we were from. I told him we were from Maine and asked if he would swap some Texas smoked BBQ for some Maine lobster. His eyes lit right up so I may have to figure out a deal we both can't refuse!

After saying our "goodbyes for now" to the Meachams and the Kendalls - we jumped back in the Vue and headed back home. But wait - we hadn't had dessert yet - and Judy figured we needed to go to Dairy Queen. At least that's the way I remember it ... it was all Judy's fault!

We finally did make it home ... after another stop at a local RV dealership to kick a few tires.


The Texas Hill Country is really starting to come alive with wild flowers and the Texas Bluebonnets can be seen in many spots along the highway. 

But alas, today is our last day here in the "hill country." Tomorrow morning we are pulling up jacks and starting our trip back home. It took us right around 3,100 miles to get here and I figure we have about 2,300 miles to get back home. Our plan is to travel back to Livingston, TX and then to Natchez, MS with D&J. From Natchez, D&J will be going back to the Plantation via Bonifay, FL and we will be traveling up the 440 some miles of the Natchez Trace National Parkway to Nashville, TN. From Nashville we plan on traveling over to Knoxville, TN and then up I-81 through VA and MD - back to NJ to visit the NJ Evringham Gang for a couple days before making it back to Maine. I figure it will take us a couple of weeks, plus or minus (probably a little plus), and we should be home right around the 2nd of April or so. 


Today is also Darrell and Judy's 39th Wedding Anniversary. To celebrate the joyous occasion we all headed back to Fredericksburg to have a Pizza lunch at Cici's Pizza. At least that was the original plan. A few hundred feet from the right hand turn to Cici's the plan was changed to a left hand turn to Der Lindenbaum - and another shot at some German food. Oops, I thought  - it is Spring Break time here in Texas, it's Saturday, it's St. Patrick's day, this is downtown Fredericksburg, and it's right about lunch time. This could be hard!


Through some miracle we found a parking place right in front of the restaurant and we got seated right away in the last table in the place. Were we lucky or are D&J just "special?"


Regardless - the food was great and we had fun helping D&J celebrate the anniversary of their wedding. Congratulations you two!
